It's no secret that the pros at PropTalk love oysters. Do you have a recipe you think has what it takes to impress? Check out this invite to compete in the National Oyster Cook-off, posted by the Maryland DNR:
From the professional restaurateur, to the culinary novice ─ chefs of all skill levels are invited to submit their original oyster recipes for consideration in the 34th National Oyster Cook-off, October 19 at the St. Mary’s County Oyster Festival in Leonardtown. A panel of food experts will choose nine of the most creative and mouthwatering entries to compete in the cook-off’s three categories ─ hors d’oeuvre, soup/stew, and main dish.
The top three recipes in each group will receive cash prizes, ranging from $150 to $300. From the three top contestants, judges will select a Grand Prize winner to receive an additional $1,000 and an engraved silver tray, along with the bragging rights that come with the national title. The Peoples’ Choice and Best Presentation winners will also receive honors.
All contestants will enjoy a night’s stay at the Lexington Park Hampton Inn and receive an invitation to the festival’s opening reception.
The Oyster Festival, including the U.S. National Oyster Shucking Championship and the National Oyster Cook-off, is organized by the Rotary Club of Lexington Park. The Oyster Cook-off is supported by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Seafood Marketing Program, the St. Mary’s County Department of Economic and Community Development, and the Rotary Club.
