Attention anglers: make sure to attend the Maryland Seafood Festival this Sunday for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Maryland Fishing Challenge Angler Awards Finale. According to DNR, the purpose of the Maryland Fishing Challenge, now in its eleventh year, is to "showcase Maryland as a great destination for sport fishing, with affordable, accessible, diverse and high quality fishing opportunities for Maryland's residents and visitors alike, and to help increase the number of youth and families participating in the sport of fishing." Photo courtesy of the MD Seafood Festival It is a free-year round tournament, and over the summer, nearly 1000 anglers caught angler award-sized fish, putting them in the running to win cash and prizes worth over $40,000. At the finale this Sunday, DNR will award prizes that include: $25,000 in cash; a boat from Tracker Marine; fishing tackle packages from Bills Outdoor Center and Bass Pro Shops; Costa gear; 12 donated fishing trips for select Youth Fishing Club members; as well as gift cards from Tochtermans, AllTackle, Marty's Bait and Tackle, and a Visa gift card from PotomacSnakehead.com. DNR will also recognize seven new state record holders and 20 Governor's Striped Bass Conservation Award recipients. The Maryland Fishing Challenge Finale will take place this Sunday, September 13, at Sandy Point State Park during the Maryland Seafood Festival.
