This past weekend was a big one for powerboat racing on the Bay! The inaugural Thunder on the Choptank took place August 19-20 at Great Marsh Park in Cambridge, MD. The event was formerly known as Thunder on the Narrows, but after that race was canceled in 2016 due to depth restrictions, the Kent Narrows Racing Association was actively looking for a new race venue.
Thirteen classes of boats competed each day on the Choptank River, including: Vintage, 5 LTR, 1.5 LTR Stock, Sportsman Comp, J Class H, National Modified, 2.5 LTR Stock, Jersey Speed Skiff, Sportsman Advanced, 2.5 LTR Modified, 1 LTR, Grand Prix, and Sportsman Entry. The race was sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association (APBA).
Stay tuned for full race results. Photos by Heather Capezio/PropTalk and Don Wagner.
