You say you want a 60-footer with the luxury level of a New York penthouse apartment, the open-air outdoor space of a day-boat, and the 40-plus-knot performance of a sport boat? Good luck finding it. Wait a sec—found it! The new Tiara EX 60 not only has all of these attributes, but it also puts them into play with a serious dash of panache.
The luxury factor will rival anything overlooking Central Park, with three private staterooms belowdecks including a full-beam master (with en-suit head) featuring a queen pedestal berth with innerspring mattress, nightstands with inductive cell phone chargers, cedar-lined hanging lockers, a 50-inch TV with Bose soundbar, and powered blinds. Then consider the customizable fabrics package, which includes almost 70 different choices for the pillows, duvets, and shams. Countertops can be quartz or solid surface, and again you get to choose the patterns that you, personally, find most appealing. In the saloon you’ll watch as a 55-inch TV rises out of the countertop. The pilothouse door slides open at the press of a button, and the aft bulkhead disappears via electrically actuated sliding glass and three-panel centerline doors. Sting, eat your heart out.
Yet despite that rather massive luxury interior, Tiara manages to incorporate a huge swath of the open outdoors aboard. Some of the credit goes to the inclusion of a chaise lounge on the bow. Much also goes to the design of the “Alfresco Cockpit Zone” between the lower cockpit and the cabin, which is as large as the cockpit of most boats and includes an L-lounge and chaise lounge with options for a breakfast bar or additional seating. Surely the cockpit itself comes into play, too, with its huge dinette between two couches or the “Adventure Module” with the electric grill, wet bar, refrigerator, or ice maker. Heck, if you feel so inclined you can even get it with five fishing rod holders on the back, tackle storage, a livewell, and macerated fishboxes. And let us not forget the massive 60-inch hydraulic lift swim platform with recessed dinghy chocks and disappearing stairway. But on top of all that, at the press of a button the port and starboard hullsides drop down so you have an expanded cockpit with swim platforms—terraces, in yacht parlance—on either side.
After considering all this, we haven’t even gone for a thrill ride yet. Powered by Volvo Penta IPS drives, the EX 60 carries either a pair of IPS1050 800-hp diesels, or IPS1350 1000-hp diesels. With the IPS1350s, the boat cruises in the low-30-knot range at 2100 rpm while burning around 70 gph. Push the throttles down, and top end just breaks 40 knots.
Truth be told, to capture the full picture of the Tiara EX 60 we’d need about three more pages of the magazine and 20 or so pictures. We haven’t even touched on aspects like construction, which is infused, cored, and reinforced with carbon fiber. We haven’t talked about the standard Glass Cockpit integrated electronics package with twin 22-inch displays. And we haven’t mentioned goodies like the electric folding antennae mounts, the multicolor LED lighting, or the multiple stereo systems (we counted 22 speakers and three subwoofers). But let’s just set all those details aside for a second and encapsulate this boat’s character in one single sentence: If you love opulence and luxury, you love feeling the wind in your hair, and you love going fast, you’re about to fall in love with the Tiara EX60.
