More than $70,000 in cash and prizes were awarded to anglers over the weekend at the Maryland Fishing Challenge Finale at the Maryland Seafood Festival at Sandy Point State Park. "The Maryland Fishing Challenge celebrates our state's high-quality fishing and provides an opportunity to recognize anglers of all ages and abilities," said DNR secretary Joe Gill. Diamond Jim himself will live to see another season, allowing the 40 anglers who caught tagged rockfish "Diamond Jim imposters" over the summer to share the $25,000 prize (taking home $625 each). The day's biggest prize was a boat, motor, and trailer from Bass Pro Shops and Tracker Boats. The winner, Pennsylvanian Rick Snider, caught a 40.5-inch striped bass off his sailboat while fishing in Calvert County, so it's a good thing he won a reputable boat to go fishing. Bobby Gibson was just hoping to win anything during the day, and he ended up taking home an all expense-paid fishing trip to the Bahamas after catching a 24-inch bullhead catfish.
